In my time as Chair of the Mental Health Committee, I heard a concerning amount from young people about their mental ill-health.
It seemed many young people did not feel comfortable to discuss their mental health at places like their school, where they were surrounded by their peers and spent most of their time.
That’s why I’m excited the Palaszczuk Government is employing over 340 wellbeing professionals, including 138 psychologists, who have already been employed through the Student Wellbeing Package and are working across 679 Queensland state schools to provide direct support for students’ wellbeing and mental health.
In our local area that means more psychologists, social workers and guidance officers for Coorparoo State School, Queensland Pathways College, Brisbane School of Distance Education, Mount Gravatt.
