Last year I committed to transferring Nursery Road State Special School land from the State Government to the Brisbane City Council for the use as parkland.

As we all know, Mount Gravatt is underserved for parkland and this land is used by many in the local community.

Last year I spoke to the former Education Minister and Treasurer about this. They supported this.

Even the local Councillor supported this.

So it's unfortunate the current Education Minister won't.

Earlier this year I wrote to the Education Minister advising him of the community's use of the land, the need for more parks in Mount Gravatt, it being declared surplus to the DoE's needs, the handover of adjoining land to the BCC and the view of the previous Government.

Current Education Minister, the Hon. John-Paul Langbroek responded to say that this transfer will not happen.

This a disappointing development from the new Government for something supported by the community.
